Choi Jeong-ho
The poster that participated in the exhibition for Choi Jeong-ho, hosted by Ahn Graphics. Choi Jeong-ho made a great influence on Korean font design. Participants were asked to make a poster using the new typeface of the AG Typography Lab, which was designed based on his original drawing. The topic of the poster had to be one of Choi's quotations. It was; "Drawing a great line or being dexterous doesn't mean everything. Attaching a serif or changing it without a rule is just a fancy pavilion. You will be able to dress up according to your style as long as you get to know the basic principles of letters and variations". I thought this was uninteresting so I erased some letters and changed his meaning.
안그라픽스에서 주최한 최정호를 위한 전시에 참여한 포스터. 최정호는 한글 서체 디자인에 큰 영향을 미친 인물이다. 전시 참여자들은 그의 원도를 바탕으로 디자인된 AG Typography Lab의 새로운 서체를 사용해 포스터를 만들어야하고 그 내용은 그의 어록 중 하나로 요청받았다. 내가 받은 그의 문장은 아래와 같다. “선을 잘 긋는다거나 손재주만 있다고 되는 것이 아니다. 괜스레 세리프를 붙이거나, 제멋대로 변형시키는 것은 공상누각 격이다. 글자의 기본 원칙을 알고 나서나 베리에이션도 할 수 있고 자기의 취향에 따라 멋도 부릴 수 있게 되는 것이다.” 나는 이 내용이 재미없다고 생각해 그의 글자를 지워 그가 의도한 의미를 변질시켰다.
